COA READERS DIGEST

growing concerns for the welfare of the homeless. They need help.

The 2023 Homeless Point in Time Count identified 3,447 people experiencing homelessness in Long Beach (an increase of 62% in 2022, and 4.6% in 2023). Most of them are also experiencing first-time homelessness. The majority spend their days searching for basic essentials, trying to survive from one day to the next. This struggle may take away their hope for a brighter future of sustainability and independence. They suffer from food insecurity, malnutrition, and hope. Our neighbors need relief.

You can change this. You have the power to make an immediate impact! Your contribution, right now, will help with providing crucial necessities for their survival and quest for independence:

IN THE HEIGHTS FUNDRAISER

What an amazing evening. We are grateful for the outpour of support.

"It was a wonderful night. The people checking us in and out were friendly and competent, the play was terrific, the food was good, the auction items were worth bidding on, and all-in-all it was perfect. Thank you." - UK

We appreciate you, and you help us make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in need. 100% of the In the Heights fundraiser and silent auction proceeds will go towards our many services including our hot meal program, foodbank, and diaper bank.

COA's Senior Day program

We are very grateful for the return of our Free Senior Lunch and Bingo. Every other month, seniors get out and celebrate a day just for them. Our events are designed to help improve emotional, intellectual, and physical wellness. They also help stave off isolation and loneliness. We offer a hearty lunch, Bingo (everyone gets a prize), a bag of groceries, and a swag bag.

There is also an educational and a health component. This past event in July, Goodwill SOLAC offered free computer courses and tips, and the LBPD Volunteers Senior Police Partners (offered advice on scammers). We have offered flu shots from the City of Long Beach, Tap Cards from the Long Beach Transit, and more.

Our seniors-only foodbank is every Wednesday from 10:00 am - 12:30 pm. All who walk through our doors are welcome.

Our next senior day is 9/27. If you know anyone who could benefit from a day of fun, reservations can be made by calling 562-432-1440.
